‘You were created to stand out’

Richard P. Montañez, creator of the popular Flamin’ Hot line of snack products, encouraged audience members to draw their motivation for success from within during his appearance in the Daniel L. Goodwin Distinguished Lecture Series on Feb. 17. His talk, titled “One Revelation Will Lead to a Revolution,” recounted his meteoric rise from janitor at Frito-Lay to executive with PespiCo. “Don’t ever let money be the motivation for doing your best,” Montañez said. “Let it be your last name.” Among his other nuggets of advice: “You were never created to fit in. You were created to stand out.”
